A to Z Recipes friends and family will be gathering in New Smyrna Beach on the east coast of Florida. We'll enjoy a full week (Tuesday August 11 through Monday August 17, 2009) in a gorgeous beach view home. The home is a perfect hideaway and includes all the amenities. Just bring your bathing suit and suntan lotion! We have room for 14 so contact us soon to reserve your place in the sun!
New Smyrna Beach was voted Florida's Best Beach by the readers of the Orlando Sentinel - second year in a row! From the world renowned Atlantic Center for the Arts, to its historic roots, to unusual shopping experiences, New Smyrna Beach is enriched with cultural activities to suit every taste. From the all-American hot dog in a historic drugstore, to a tantalizing steak and lobster feast on the waterfront, New Smyrna Beach offers exceptional dining variety. Shop along historic Flagler Avenue and Canal Street and find a unique gift for that hard to please friend. Get all the necessities or the latest in Florida fashions at local department and drugstores. When you finish shopping, grab a bite to eat at one of many local restaurants or one of your favorite national chains. Shopping and Dining -- always a one of a kind experience in the Greater New Smyrna Beach area! Just a short drive from Orlando, New Smyrna's location is close to all of the popular theme park action. But with the laid-back attitude of a small coastal community, New Smyrna Beach is a world away from big-city congestion. Anglers and history buffs will enjoy a short trip to DeLand and its surrounding areas. An award-winning restored main street and spectacular freshwater fishing await. Kennedy Space Center is also nearby, making New Smyrna Beach an ideal launch pad for your vacation. Take a virtual tour of the shopping, outdoor attractions and beach parks here.
NSB is served by Daytona (DAB) airport and Orlando (MCO) airport - just an hour's drive to Orlando and less to Daytona. NSB is also a stone's throw away from the International Speedway and NASCAR Museum at Daytona Beach, the Lewis Comfort Tiffany Museum in Winter Park and the famous Leu Gardens. Historical St Augustine is about 2 hours away.
The rental beach house is where many of us will be staying. We had a cancellation of our original rental house but have secured another which perfectly suits our needs (and is cheaper!). The cost of the beach house stay per person depends upon how many sign up. However many sign up, the cost of the rental will be equally divided amongst attendees. You can see the new house here.
There is a variety of hotels and motels if you choose to stay elsewhere. The NSB Visitors Bureau has a web site where many are listed.
There are so many places to see and things to do in the NSB area. We will be making plans for some activities soon. For this group of foodies we have Taco Soup and Fixings by Trey (TX) on Tuesday night. There's dinner catered by Luanne (FL) and Jean (OH) on Wednesday. They're serving up Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Frog-Eye Salad, Cole Slaw, and a Margarita Cake! Anita (WA) will be doing a fabulous dinner with the main dish of Chicken Scampi, a recipe from the Olive Garden, one night. Rita (FL) is bringing the shrimp! We'll be having a shrimp boil and perhaps another shrimp entree. Carol (NY) will treat us to a Southern Breakfast one morning. We have a late lunch-early dinner planned for Saturday, August 15 at Norwood's Restaurant, located at 400 Second Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. We will meet around 1:30 and will be seated together as A to Z Recipes members. Each person will order off the menu and pay their own tab (a 18% gratuity will be added as we are a group and require a separate area). The staff has promised that we can eat and visit, without being hurried. On Sunday, Maggie will prepare a brunch for the group.
